JCOM140 Media Terms in English 3 Prerequisites:

This course introduces students to several concepts that fall within the fields of media and communication, new digital environment, and various relevant concepts to these fields, in order to comprehend prevailing terms within the context of digital media and its industry.

JCOM 141 Basics of Digital Media 3 Prerequisites:
-

This course is an introduction to digital media. It aims to provide a comprehensive background of the prominent concepts of digital media and important terms used in the digital discourse. It sheds light on the definitions of digital media, and the development of the digital media industry through historical anecdotes of these mediums. Finally, the course addresses social constraints and challenges that frame the use of digital media in our daily practices.

JCOM 142 Digital Content Production 3 Prerequisites:

This course provides a comprehensive perception of the concept of media content creation, as well as the forms of media content. It also highlights the four basic skills for creating digital content, namely: planning digital content, understanding the audience and choosing the right platform, writing media content, and evaluating interaction with media content.

JCOM 143 Media Writing 3 Prerequisites:

This course includes theoretical explanations of/ and practical exercises on the up to date media writing models and forms for online publishing across digital platforms. This includes the standards of/ and methods for composing, editing and publication of information online across digital platforms and through digital storytelling tools.

JCOM 144 Client and Digital Environment 3 Prerequisites:

This course introduces students to the concept of digital change and its role in shaping digital customer behavior. In addition, it provides them with compulsory skills that enable companies, institutions, and individuals to adapt and adjust with change (customer service) in line with its requirements. The course also highlights opportunities and challenges fronting companies and individuals in the digital market when providing customer service.

JCOM 145 Communication Theories 3 Prerequisites:

This course includes providing students with the fundamental theories which explains the creation and interaction with social information in the digital age. In addition, this course highlights different theoretical methods ranging from critical/cultural studies to positional/behavioral research. Moreover, the course provides students - in general - with the theoretical foundations of digital media across a variety of topics.

JCOM 146 Media Ethics and Legislation 3 Prerequisites:

This course includes the study of digital media technologies’ laws and ethics, and their applications, namely, laws, regulations for digital broadcasting and publishing via the Internet. Moreover, it includes national and international ethics and covenants of digital media practices. The course also highlights the nature and limits of freedom of opinion, expression, and information crimes within the digital context.

JCOM 147 Social Networks 3 Prerequisites:

This course introduces students to various digital social media platforms and what they offer to individuals and companies. In addition, the course introduces students to the role of social media platforms in the current transformations in relation to economic and political mobility and their influence on public opinion. The course also highlights new and future roles of social media through using these platforms as a defense tool in virtual conflict.

JCOM148 Digital Management 3 Prerequisites:

This course introduces students to digital management as an economic and a commercial foundation by developing students’ digital management skills in serving digital institutions, while maintaining cybersecurity. The course highlights digital transformations within companies and assists students to develop the essential strategies to cope with these transformations as a digital innovation strategy. Moreover, the course defines the concept of digital entrepreneurship and its both beneficial and challenging economic and commercial aspects.

JCOM 149 Digital Identity 3 Prerequisites:

This course focuses on constructing and representing digital identity for companies, institutions, and individuals, and the marketing mechanism for both personal and commercial identity facets. Moreover, this course addresses the presence of companies and individuals across digital media chaplet forms and the construction of their identity presentation, as well as the use of different tools to achieve professional digital representation through digital discourse. The practical side of this course focuses on the methods of activating professional digital presence and constructing a brand identity through adequate mediums for individual and institutional presence across digital media platforms.

JCOM 150 Research Methods in Communication 3 Prerequisites:

This course prepares and enables students to conduct academic research within the field of digital media, by addressing well established research methods within the context of the digital. Specifically, this course covers three main angles: (1) the theoretical and epistemological foundations of various research approaches; (2) qualitative curricula and tools; and (3) quantitative approaches and their different measuring methods for the purpose of developing students' research skills in the field of digital media.

JCOM 151 Media and Artificial Intelligence 3 Prerequisites:

This course introduces the concept of artificial intelligence, its relation to the production of digital content, and its impact on the written, audio, or visual media message. All of which, through developing the process of extracting news content, writing stories and press news, generating discourse and also utilizing it in marketing operations, campaign management and public relations.

JCOM 250 Digital Photography 2 Prerequisites:

This course encompasses the study of professional digital photography techniques, reviewing its stages, types of digital cameras, lenses, lighting, digital photography processing techniques and printing programs. As well as the way to implement digital photos, and make the most of them within media, technical and educational contexts, and how to exploit from new features of digital camera.

JCOM 251 Digital Video 3 Prerequisites:

This course includes studying software and techniques of producing and editing digital video clips, understanding the stages of video preparation from planning and photography to montage, in addition, it helps students to choose the type of digital video and its features and acknowledge the practical stages of digital montage and the presentation patterns of digital videos’ transcripts.

JCOM 252 Digital audio technologies 3 Prerequisites:

The course tackles the principles, skills of and criteria for designing and producing digital audio, understanding how to collect, record and measure its accuracy. It also defines the techniques and types of digital audio files, and sound equipment which are used to produce professional sound effects. The course also teaches students how to convert natural sound to digital audio, as well as learning the most important advantages and disadvantages of using digital audio and how to add digital audio to different media.

JCOM 253 Graphic Design 3 Prerequisites:

The course includes an explanation of the concepts of graphic design, its characteristics, uses, elements and principles. In addition, it teaches students to identify graphic designer skills and tools, the structural foundations of design, modern trends in the graphic design of digital platforms, and how to apply them through the use of various design programs.

JCOM 254 Digital Visual Effects 3 Prerequisites:

The course includes the basics, elements and principles of the work of digital visual effects, and two-dimensional work techniques that ensure the best design of movement. The course also includes methods of producing and designing high-quality visual effects, types of animation and their applications and stages of implementation, in addition to how to produce three-dimensional effects.

JCOM 255 Analysis and Evaluation of Digital Data 3 Prerequisites:

This course introduces students in how to use API services to collect data from different social media platforms, and analyze data in order to reach conclusions related to the sources and people who created that data. This can be done through the use of different tools to collect, analyze and explore data, with the aim of benefiting from its results in understanding user behavior in the digital environment, developing digital services, and improving its outputs.

JCOM 257 Mobile Application Development 3 Prerequisites:

This course includes providing students with the necessary skills of how to create designs and a user interface for mobile, including mobile applications, as it will focus on concepts, web technologies and industry standards for designing the mobile interface and tools for that with an aim to creating, programming, and developing integrated mobile web applications.

JCOM 258 Digital Media Campaigns 3 Prerequisites:

This course includes introducing students to the role of digital communication in media campaigns, its advantages and challenges, in addition to introducing students to the steps in planning a digital media campaign and developing digital marketing strategies in order to provide students with necessary skills of how to create and manage digital campaigns.

JCOM 259 Graduation Project 3 Prerequisites:
-

The graduation project includes a practical application of all the skills and practices gained through the subjects prescribed in the Digital Media Diploma program, where the student presents a specialized project in one of the areas of digital media and its applications.
